win 2000

Hi , I would like to thank everyone for their help. This weekend I am upgradeing to win2000 pro full verision. I take anymore of the instability of Me. I have not used 2000 yet but it seems alot of people are. I have located about 95% of the patches, drivers, and updates for my hardware and software,also bios update. I have a few questions though.
1 If a program is Win Nt compatable will it work on 2000?
2 I have not yet found the drivers for my cdr or modem,dose 2000 have a built in auto detect screan for harware?
3 Will I notice a speed increace and improved mem. rescorces?
4. If a program is list win 95,98, dose this mean it is not compatible with 2000?

Windows 2000 has a significan't driver base and most, if not all, cdr's should be recognized. Though the use of them is mostly decided upon by the software you use to burn with. As for your modem, chances are you should be ok, if not we can try to help

3 Will I notice a speed increace and improved mem. resources?
if you have atleast 256MB of RAM on your system and decent processor, then you should notice a difference in OVERALL performance and stability. I would recommend a minimum of 256MB of RAM. Though I suggest 512MB to feed the hungry machine Judging from your specs in your sig, you should be very happy with the performance.

You're quite welcome. You will be amazed at the performance and stability of Win2k over ME .. and it will use your RAM much more efficiently than ME has. I can't believe you stayed with ME so long

I hear that my man.. I hear that.. Have you ever worked with windows 2000? have you ever installed it? Just asking because I've no clue on how experienced you are and I don't want to sound condescending.

 

no,no, just a lot of trail and error. I've done hours and hours of reading on web sites,but mostly forms . A very good friend of mine is going to help me wiyh the inital install, he has been working for 20 odd years in the feild , I'll tweek from there.

Thanks, I'm tring to learn ,spend about an average 5 to 8 hours a day looking and playing around . Maybe in a couple of years I'll get out of boot camp.
