Win 2K Wifi issue

Ok,

I have a network with three computers on it. I am using a cable modem (isp-RCN) and a linksys wireless router (80211b). I have two laptops and a desktop. they all connect wirelesss. One laptop has a card (linksys) and the other is a built in adapter. The desktop has a card as well. The laptops have XP, and the desktop has Win2K. They all work fine except about every 24hours, the desktop looses internet connection. Sometimes I restart the computer and it works for another 24 hours, other times I have to restart the router, but it never works more than 24hrs. The IP address never changes, and it really never disconects from the router. It just can't get on the internet.

I have updated the firmware, but it did not help. Is there a 2K issue I am not aware of, or are there any other suggestions.

How long is the DHCP lease from the wireless router? Open up a command prompt and type ipconfig /all and look at Lease Obtained and Lease Expires.

You could try increasing the lease duration the wirelss router gives out. Alternately, you could try assigning the Win2k PC a static IP address.

 

Thanks for the advice. I gave it a static IP today, and will see if it stays on for more than a day. It looks like it renews the lease every 24 hrs. I saw that and thought that might be the culprit because today the IP was 169...ect. ect. I will let you know how it went tomorrow.
