Win 7 64b problem

Since my purchase of this hp pavilion, I have had this problem on and off. When I try to install software I have downloaded or have the cd for i get the following message. "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." If I use the trick of changing the name of the .exe file to notepad I can sometimes get the program to install but most times not. I have virus checked with Avast, Malware bytes, and adaware. All say I dont have a virus. I have visited knowledge bases and various googled solutions without a solution. Any help would be appreciated. I have a system info and a hyjak report if requested.

 

That can happen if you have a permissions issue, or the profile gets screwed up. The other that I have come across, is Avast and a couple of other anti-virus software, due to how they lock the files. Try shutting down Avast, or completely removing and trying a test install of the software. You can download Microsoft Security essentials and use it instead of Avast.

 

As suggested in the previous post, it is very likely permission related.

The next time you try to install a software, select the installation (setup.exe) file, right-click, choose Run as Administrator and let us know if that makes a difference.

You may also want to try creating a New Profile (User Account) with full administrator privileges and see if that helps with the installation of programs.
