You can delete the 2nd XP partition but not the first. If you delete the first your computer won't boot up at all.

You will have to explain your setup as a normal dual boot uses a separate partition, not folder, for each install. If your second XP is not in a seperate partition then where exactly is it?

Thanks but i dont understand exactly what you said... and, sure, i have a xp on a partition and the other on other partition....... you think i can have 2 xp installed on same partition lol or what?

or i dont think a xp installed on a partition can use other partitions, how you are sugesting, anyway im confused. My question was clear and i think simple

to simplify the things, because this is second post about same #@#$ problem lol, with no answer yet, im asking just if i can delete the windows FOLDER, if i have dual boot 2 xp instalations (forget i want to install win 7). The other xp ill start if i delete (not formating) just the windows folder - first installed windows, where is the boot file too - but, sure, i wont touch the boot file, who isnt in windows folder anyway

I'll try once more. Believe me I am not trying to confuse you. Yes, you can delete the Windows folder in the first XP, just don't expect that XP to work afterwards because it will not. Neither will it give you any extra space for installing Win 7 as you would have to shrink the partition and then move the second XP partition down to achieve that.

If you need more space for 7 then remove the second XP, which was what I was suggesting in my first post.

i dont need space for win 7... i have a other partition for this..... And why to not delete first windows? i wont delete second windows, this is better than first. Nevermind, i give up
My question was if after deleting first windows folder the second xp ill start and u asnwer me no, first windows will not start lol, but i dont care about first. thanks anyway lol

I think the second XP should start as long as you leave the boot file.

What you could do is rename the Windows folder to something else then see if the second XP boots. If all goes well you can delete the renamed Windows folder.

Although it should boot you might want to have a linux CD/USB available to boot from in case it caused problems. You could use that CD to rename the folder back to Windows. Something like Puppy linux would work fine in such an emergency.

    Yes, that should work fine.

Linux CD's are easy to create and they run directly off the CD so no install. They are good because you can access all files on the Window drive and don't have to worry about permissions or anything like that.

If you ever want to try that Puppy Linux is pretty good for just accessing files. All the partitions get icons at the bottom left of the desktop (ie. sda1, sda2 etc. are the HD partitions; sdb1 might be the CDROM or USB flash drive etc.)

You just burn the downloaded ISO to a blank CD as an IMAGE file. Imgburn's "Write Image file to Disc" option will work. Then just boot from the CD and you are at the Puppy desktop. Click on the various sda icons and you will see the files on your different Windows partitions. When you eject the CD there is no linux on your computer because it was running from the CD and RAM.

But you should be fine renaming the files with the HD connected to another computer.
