win 7 backup restore

Please criticize my selections so I am not making an error.
First, I chose to backup the system image daily.
Secondly, I selcted to remove all but the last image when the process takes place.

I notice, after a backup and in "Computer", while hovering the cursor over the icons I see some folders and files as empty.
With Acronis and Macrium I was used to dealing with GB's and with Win 7 all I see are KB's nd MB's.

A few days ago, I successfully ran a recovery without any problem.
Acronis and Macrium failed but Win 7 was perfect, that is why I am using it.

The last issue of interest is system restore. It seems as soon as I chose to remove all but the last image in backup, system restore was turned off. I don't know if this was a coincidence or not. All of the retore points were still there.
