I am renaming files and the folder would always refresh instantly which I need to happen to make sure the numbering is correct. About 3 days ago it suddenly stopped refreshing. F5 does not work as in it does not refresh. If I look for a particular type of file and have say 1000 odd and search by name I cannot find that file there and have to look a the whole folder to try and find the file. This is very frustrating I have tried to look for donotrefresh in registry but cannot find it. I have 64bit system Win 7 Ultimate How do I get it to refresh like it used to. Also libraries is turned off cant stand it, and indexing is also off. These settings have been like this for a long time and the computer has been working fine up until a couple of days ago. Have no idea why, no new programs to my knowledge no updates either as Auto updating is off. I would appreciate some help. Thank You

When a system function starts misbehaving it's usually worth running the system file checker sfc /scannow. You invoke it from an elevated command prompt, i.e. Run as Administrator.

I had actually run this before but I did it again and both times it stated Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations

Took several goes to get that link to work but it is a bit hard for me to figure out what to do or not to do as not that ofay with computers probable enough to get me into trouble. When I searched online for this problem there seemed to be some that said to find donotrefresh in the registry and change it from 1 to 0 but I cannot find it. I have the folder open as renaming many files to get them back on track and can see the file I have renamed disappear but it should remain in that folder as I have selected all of those particular files to show, that I have open if I then go to the all files and trawl through I can find the file this is way too frustrating and I do not understand why it doesn't work like it always used to rename the file and straight away I can see it and move on.

Not sure I'm reading you right but you cannot rename a file while the file is open and never have been able to.

    Folder open that holds files
Renaming files the folder is not refreshing as in the file that has been renamed drops out and cannot see it unless I restart and then its there.
I have many files of differing types/names say 1000 odd of each
I used to be able to open same folder and then in the search bar search for the type i wanted and the whole lot of that type only would be shown I could then rename and instantly the renamed file would appear obviously with its new name. With numbering out of sequence then I need to have this available all the time. This is now not happening and I cannot find a way to change it back. Even if I have the folder open and no search and scroll to where all these files are when I rename the file it goes away not to be seen. I to my knowledge haven't changed anything but something has changed I have been able to do this for over 10 years or so. I need this to work as I have many files that are out of sequence and renaming them without being able to see them is soooo frustrating. I have searched online thinking there may be a quickfix and some report finding in the registry CLSID with donnotrefresh and changing it from a 1 to a 0 but I cannot find it. Not that ofay with computers just enough to be dangerous to myself I suppose. There must be a fix for this.
