A friend has a Win 7 PC that has a bad motherboard. He also has an older Vista machine. He wants to capture his media off the HD in the WIN7 machine so I installed the WIN7 HD in the Vista machine(Both are SATA). The drive installed fine and I can see it and access some of the data but not the User data...docs, pics, etc...not authorized. I tried a couple methods to gain authorization with no luck. Maybe WIN7 has some security that can't be bypassed by older Vista.

    Any help???

    Thanks

You have to take ownership of the Win 7 drive but I don't know if this can be done from within Vista.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I will just hook it to my win7 machine and restructure folders.

You may still need to take ownership of that user folder even on YOUR Win 7 machine. The underlined words in my previous post are a hyperlink to instructions on how to do that IF you need them.
