[win 7] How Do I Permanently Set Default "columns"??

In each window, if you have your view set to 'details', you have different columns EG 'Size' & 'Date Modified'. This is all good except theres a problem: Windows keeps changing the columns back to what it thinks is best. So for music folders, the columns will keep reverting to stuff like 'track no.', 'title', 'artist' etc (title & artist columns are useless since the name & artist of the track is always in the filename anyway LOL), instead of the simple 'Size', 'modified', 'created' setup which is all I want.

Is there any way to prevent this, or to set my own truly permanent defaults? I will never need to use columns like 'track no.', 'artist', 'title', 'duration' etc so I'd rather be done with them for good but they keep on coming back (damn them lol!)!

    Thanks!

Folder Options.jpg Once you're in the folder change the columns you want, then in folder options select 'view' and 'apply to folders'

Unfortunately MicroSoft knows best and you may have to set each folder.
try VIEW / CUSTOMIZE THIS FOLDER / OPTOMIZE THIS FOLDER FOR and choose General Items
I have to do this all the time to folders that contain music. At least you can select to change all the subfolders at once. I have all my music in one folder and when I add music use the subfolder change to get them all.

Thanks, sorry I took so long to get back. I'll try both of these suggestions because this is a pain to have to keep changing every time you turn on the PC!

I put my music in seperate genre folders, and I also have a live sets (DJ mixes) and a folder where all my albums go, so I guess I need to start in the root "music" folder and it'll work its way into each subfolder?

    Hi

Is this a folder with just music in and how many master folders (not sub folders) as in do you put all your music in one folder with subfolders for various artists etc?

Just a thought as if Windows sees music files it sets the folder as default for music hence the track title artist etc, just worth a try on the master folder and see if this trickles down to the sub folders, Right click the master folder and choose Properties > Customise and then under Optomise folder for: choose General and tick the apply to subfolders and Apply.
