    Hello all-

Its been a crazy long time since I have been on this forum, I'm surprised my account still worked!

Well the task at hand- My friend had an Acer Aspire 5252 laptop laying around that was broke I told him hey let me take a look at the thing... :boxing I mess around with it for some time (I find the keyboard was fried from liquid damage) Now I didn't know this at first so I started it up from my external HD and wiped the HD and proceeded with my install. They keyboard is screaming via the laptop speakers with beeps and boops so I finally yank the keyboard out and try to install W.7.H.P gets the whole instal complete then.... Windows cannot install on this hardware.

I'm lost.. Please help. I only had a 64bit ver so Im going to try the 32bit and see if that helps, it hasn't mattered in the past but hell if I know.

All I know about the rig
    Acer Aspire 5252
    2gigs ram
    250gig hd
    Windows 7 Home Premium

Are you trying to install the operating system to the external hard drive?

Because if you are that would probably be the issue

I believe you can install an operating system via external drive using some software like lexar usb flip tool or something alike

Are you sure there is no damage to the motherboard and other components from the liquid?

It's a 64-bit machine, but as plodr pointed out there could be other damage.

Have you run any diagnostics on the HDD, RAM, or motherboard?

    Hey guys-

I am installing windows ON the laptop FROM my external HD via Yumi (i have done this with this same set up, 15+ times before). It has no keyboard (i have a dell wired keyboard connected now) I cannot say for sure but I'm thinking the damage doesn't effect any other hardware. Pulled the HD ran disk check on it from my Dell tower -fine. Once the keyboard was out you could not physically see any damage under it and the side that received the damage has the dvd drive under it. I will try and pull the drive and see if it helps. The 32bit vs 64 bit made no difference. Now after many hours of looking (and of course my laptop dies while Im in using the restroom- and lose the webpage on how to do it) I found a way to enter device manager in safe mode while installing Win 7. It had a crazy amount of drivers that failed like the video drive.
Install always fails right after the screen in the Win 7 set up does its flickers like its adjusting the resolution. I make it all the way through installation where its says "completing install" the last check mark on the install list, after its booted up to its own HD.

I would try running it from a DVD in case there is anything screwy with the USB. If it doesn't install and has the same issues I would say you need a PC Doctor kit or similar diagnostic tools if you want to diagnose it any further.

Yeah, I use this HD all the time to fresh install windows, I used it on his other PC moments after I realized this one was going south. I don't have blank DVDs to burn a copy to, although it wouldn't be hard to grab some (at the owners expense lol) but I'd rather not as he doesn't want to stick ANY money into it (ie buy an replacement keyboard which I found on ebay for 10 bucks lol) until he knows it works, which is stupid because this thing looks brand new and if it can be fixed- hell its still a newish laptop. I'm still hoping its a driver error or something.

Little update if anyone is intrested:

I ended up having to pull the HD and installing Win 7 on my dell desktop, I then reinstalled the HD into the laptop and booted again from my external HD running Yumi then Paragon.

Paragon is a program people use when their motherboard goes out and they want to keep they install of windows. Basically it allows you to take one HD out of a computer, install it into another and still be able to boot windows. I was then able to install the correct drivers and all is well. Keyboard is on its way.

Helpful info for anyone in my spot:
