    Hey there geeks,

I want to enlist your expertise with this issue. I've run AV all over it. No viri found.

So here is my issue. My CPU goes to 100% and memory goes nearly that high about 10 times an hour on most of these events the system freezes for some 30 seconds. No human input has happened so it must be one of the auto tasks kicking in. Got up this morning and looked at task manager. 100%. Computer had not been touched in 6 hours.

Usually running FFox, Skype and dropbox. But that has been the same for year now. This problem as been about 2 months.

    I have

1- uninstalled Silverlight, thinking the many language version might be triggering the issue.
2- Modified WMedia player to monitor only two folders.
    3- Modified Real player same
4- tried disabling programs one at a time to see if any had immediate effect.
5- Reinstalled a program called inbit, which is a chat program my company uses.
    No success.

I reviewed Event logs and found Service Control Manager Error 7036, a zillion times. However I don't know what to do to correct or even if this is the issue.

I've done internet searches not much help from any of them.

Screen shot can be seen here - http://gyazo.com/6d01ae8ae1a4b19dab87b8f1394379d2

Anyone have ideas or experience on this?

    Regards to all.

My guess would be malware, or the remains thereof. There are times when even though you've removed some nasty programs, they do corrupt Windows. I had a laptop the other day where the best, and only thing that could properly do the job was a DOD grade total wipe, and a fresh install.

Sometimes the effects of malware can linger.

Have you completed a "Read & Run Me First"?

    Thanks for responding so quickly.

Yep did all the stuff, even loaded the logs to TimW for review in case I was missing something. Nope all clean. Sigh.

Go to your processes in task manager and sort by cpu usage, make a screen shot. Then sort by memory, screen shot. Post them here. Other than that, I'd recommend buying an additional 2 GB of ram. I'm guessing you are running 7 32bit?

    Thanks for responding,

    Running Win7 64bit / 5450 Radeon graphics card with 1gig ram onboard / 2gig ram on motherboard.

Was tough getting any kind of useful screen shot, 100% freezes it up.

I opened all the software I run when working and watched it for a while to see if there was a pattern. Can't say I saw anything obvious.

Been running this configuration on this computer for a year without issues. Haven't added any new software that I can think of.

Here is a screen shot I did get.

I think this is caused by a conflict with currently running Antivirus, Anti-spyware and Anti-malware.

MsMpEng.exe shows 52 under cpu usage, which is Windows Defender.

Try Disabling Windows Defender, restart and see if the problem continues.

If the problem does Not continue, find a replacement for Windows Defender or
start adding exclusions to it's scan locations, including it's own home directory and the home directory of the Antivirus.

Turn Windows Defender real-time protection on or off

Don't mind the previous post, I was hip deep in hardware issues at the time.

Any rate, when you said you ran every A/V it begs the question which do you still have installed?

And my best guess is that the OS is starved. But, a quick and easy check to see if you can run normally is to use msconfig and select diagnostic startup. Yes to reboot. If all works okay, then it is something you are running that is causing the issue. If your issues go away, then go back to Normal startup and post here the results.

The biggest issue, I see is why run an 64 bit OS with only 2 GB of ram. Add another 2 or 4 GB of ram, and you should see an improvement.
