    Hi,
I am told to get Win7 Pro or Expert, so as to be able to have a lot more ram added to PC, the company that told me this had 128Gb RAM on their PC.
Is there a difference between these two and what is it ?
I see pro advertised then higher than that comes enterprise then Ultimate.

I dont want it for anything else other than RAM.

How much RAM does Home Premium allow and how much do the others allow.

I bought Win7 Home Premium not aware of this memory situation and limit thereto. I have yet to install the OS onto a PC so wish to get this right before I do by purchasing an upgrade, and it appears Pro can only be sold to businesses..why is that ?

Where can I get Pro upgrade to Home Premium from if not a business ?

Also Pro to the UK costs us far more than Pro to the USA. rip off Britain at it again...or is that rip off USA ?

I dont want by the way 8 or 8.1 so dont even mention it thanks.

Home Premium 64 bit is 16GB.
    Pro is 192GB.

Let me also add that I doubt a non-server machine has 128GB of ram.

Are you sure you are not referring to storage?

What are you doing with the computer? That way we can determine if you have a need for more RAM. Just adding RAM for the sake of having a lot and using the computer to do email and surf is a waste of ££££.
What is the CPU in the current computer you want to upgrade? That also determines how fast things happen.

I'll probably upgrade my 32 bit XP computer to 32 bit Win 7. The computer has 4GB of RAM which I installed in 2013. Neither XP nor 7 can see all that RAM but I wanted more than 2GB in the computer.

    Hi,
Talked to a photogrammetry company who produce an 11Gb file, takes their PC 6 to 8 hrs to number crunch the results of 3 days site visit with 1/4 million pound photogrammetry software / hardware. Hundreds of hi res pics of spots are fed into PC and produce a CAD mesh after that 6-8 hrs.
I need to be able to then work in CAD with such files/meshes, maybe even generated from our own version of such software.

I may not go for 128Gb but need to be able to up the RAM to adequately work on large files.

So what will 7Pro max out at GB wise ?...will Ultimate or Enterprise allow for even more or are Pro and Ultimate and Enterprise all the same RAM wise ? , I need to know, also where does one get an upgrade ?

My PC is Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
    E8500 @ 3.16GHz
    reading it off Settings window.

I also will upgrade vid card to 2Gb or more.

I think you are aiming too high for an upgrade.

You will need a replacement machine altogether. There is simply no way your motherboard supports 128GB with that current configuration.

So you are looking at new CPU, motherboard, ram, video card, and ideally, SSD.

7 Pro will cover you up to 192GB.

As an example, here is a motherboard that supports 128GB:
