Win 7 & Screen saver does not respond

Last week I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium to a new hard drive. I have the screen saver set to show photos. For the last week when I move the mouse it would take about 20 seconds for the screen saver to respond. Now it is just not responding. Just keeps playing the photos. This happens with the mouse or keyboard. Any ideas?

 

By the way, I am running a Dell E510 with 32 bit Pentium D 2.8Ghz Dual Core, 2 GB RAM

Strange symptoms. If you choose another screen saver, such as 'Blank', does the lag persist?

 

I had to restart the computer. Then it went back to taking 20 seconds to respond. Did what you suggested and changed to blank. Responded right away. Tried a few other and responded right away. Put it back to photos and responded right away. Strange but seems to be ok for now.

 

Still having this same problem with the photo screen saver. A google search shows many others having it too but no solutions. If I have to logon screen set when resuming from screen saver it takes over a minute to resume after I move the mouse. If I do not have the log on screen then it resumes after 30 seconds or so. This also happens with a 3rd part photo screensaver I have. Other windows screensavers works fine. Any ideas?
