I have 64 bit Win 7 installed. Some program icons in the taskbar repeatedly go "generic" . Don't know if that's the proper term, but the 3 affected programs' icons become boxes with a red and blue dot within. I reinstall the programs and the correct icons return, but eventually they become "generic" again. Thanks for your consideration.

What are the specific 3 programs?

    Eusing Free Registry Cleaner
    Spyware Blaster
    MalwareBytes

It might be important to note that despite the icon problem, the 3 programs still work as normal. The icons also go generic in the start menu.

Is this a home computer, or a work computer. If home, or work, do you redirect %appdata%?

If I knew the answers to those two questions, I'd right a book and become rich! ;)
I keep directions handy for the glitches my personal computers seem to get so I don't have to search if the same thing happens again.

    OK.

I put the batch file in my "toolbox" folder and will ues it again if the problem repeats. I remember having this same problem with XP years ago, and had to apply the same band-aid. After awhile, I no longer had the problem.

Also had a "problem" with blinking icons and opening folders and having to wait forever for all icons to become visible. Notice the same situation with win 7. I changed something in the registry, increasing the total number of icons? memory? allowed for icons. Don't remember exactly. Yes.....increase icon cache size! Seven forums is down so can't look up the procedure. Think I'll tweak this installation since win 7 is so heavily icon-rich. Much more so than XP.
