Win 7 x64: Picture Import

When importing pictures from our DSLR camera, the files are not saved to the directory I have specified. In the import settings, I have it set to be saved in 'Public Pictures', but instead they are saved to 'User 2 Pictures'.

This only happens on the User 2 account. On the Admin account, the pictures save in the correct directory, also set to 'Public Pictures'. Any ideas?

 

Which software are you using to do the import, Dave - 3rd party, from the DSLR disc? If so, log into the User2 account and see if you can set the software to 'run as Administrator' by right-clicking the exe file for it and choosing Properties. It reads like a permissions issue.

 

The standard Windows autoplay import. I plug the camera in, and Windows asks if I want to import, and I say yes.

 

Update: Issue resolved. satrow was right, it was just a permissions issue. Doesn't make much sense to me to have to manually turn sharing on for the 'Public' folder. Why would I have a Public folder that can't be shared? That would make it a standard user folder. Anyway, thanks for setting me in the right direction, would have never crossed my mind since I just assumed 'Public' meant shared.

 

Careful when altering permissions, especially allowing Sharing, in any folder that resides within a User area. I don't have time to track down references right now but sharing one folder means that there's a subtle change back up the tree which may make the User folder less secure.
