MS Monthly Security Rollups continually fail. Any suggestions?

Do you have KB3177467 installed on this PC? This was an improvement to Windows updates itself that seems to have solved many problems.

I had the problem with KB4514602 last month. I rebooted and got side tracked. Was going to go to the catalog and download when Windows retried the update install, and it installed. KB4524157 installed normally this month.

Run sfc /scannow from an administrator command prompt. Start->Type command prompt in the search window, right click "Command Prompt" and select run as administrator. Type sfc /scannow at the prompt, hit enter, and then wait for the repair scan to finish. Next copy/paste the following into the command prompt window at the prompt and enter:

    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

Attach the sfcdetail.txt to a post.

Appears many others are having your issues. Try Googling "Windows rollups failing" and check out some of the threads. Seems this can be a very troublesome problem...

Please wait to install anything issued in October! The Security patch comes out on October 8th. Anything earlier is a beta for patch Tuesday's patches. Those patches have now been released 3 times to patch a patch in another patch! You don't need to be a beta tester for MS.

There are lots of issues with that.
Read here to get an idea.

Issues include start menu not working, printers no longer print.

You do need to install 4474419. This has been re-issued almost every month since March. September's patch affected Win 7 so it should be installed.

You also need to be sure that the SSU (servicing stack update) 4490628 is installed. This was issued in March and had to be installed by July.

Not installing those two would affect your ability to update Windows 7.

I just noticed this in another thread in the forum here:

If Plodr's suggestions aren't the answer for you, you might look and see if you have this installed on your system. If it's not there, maybe it will install and solve the problem. I've run into this in the past where missing updates for IE caused the entire Windows Updates interface to fail the way yours has. Also, I saw mention of this also in another thread on MS Technet, where someone was looking for the same solution as you...

All of the items suggested by plodr are installed, as is 4503259 suggested by AtlBo

The results of the scan suggested by AtlBo are attached.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks for your help all!

    sfc scannow says this:

Confuses me a little bit. Says some files can't be repaired (looks like one->regini.exe), then at the end of the scan says "All files [and...] have been successfully repaired". Not sure whether the corruption is repaired or not. You might try to run it again to see if the same corruption is still present.

regini.exe is associated with the registry. It runs at all times and apparently stores code hidden in registry keys. Whatever program that adds registry based code can use the code without accessing the registry->improved execution speed. Think I would run sfc /scannow again and get the output file same as before. If it's not clear, head to the malware board to have your PC checked out. Maybe you have had some malware based corruption...

There was an update released at the end of September that I was not aware of until sometime in October. It is a SSU (servicing stack update) and is KB4516655.

I don't see it posted by me in this thread.

Check if that is installed. If not, install this first, reboot then try the other updates that fail.

I updated four Windows 7 computers successfully sometime in late October. If I had to guess, I'd suspect around 2 weeks after the updates were released.

    KB4516655 is already installed.

Re-scan is attached. Looks the same...
