I recently formatted my comp, it is up and running but I cannot setup any new software, it says missing .dll kernel ect. I have the disc for the programs I previously had installed but they will not setup on comp, such as nero ares ect. confused

    Welcome to Major Geeks. ;)
If you have a genuine CD copy of Win98, then go to Start-->Run.

    Type in
    SFC
    and press <enter>

System File Checker (SFC) will check your PC for important missing MS files and install them from the MS CD.

Be very careful on your choice of answer, you usually have around 3 answers.
Choose ignore for all, maybe, on first time through, until youu feel confident in what you are doing.

Keep running SFC until all missing files are reloaded.

If this is not the problem, or does not solve the problem, post back here for someone to help further. Bazza

crdl.dll is probably installed by Nero. An uninstall and re-install of Nero should fix this.

Do a search (Find) for kernel32.dll, and you will probably find more than 1 copy on your PC. Copy the latest version to C:\windows\system32.

Or if not sure, post details here of how many copies, and folder locations, of where kernel32.dll is found on your PC, and we will advise further.

Did SFC find, and fix, anything at all?

I would have thought it would find a missing, or corrupted kernel32.dll and ask you to fix it. My memory is a bit rusty on W98, but I think SFC would check for it.

    Anyone else, please step in.

For W98, kernel32.dll in C:\Windows\system is probably correct.
    It's been a while since I used W98.

Does SFC find a problem with kernel32.dll?
Does SFC find any unfixed problems?

    Did you re-install Nero, yet?
PS: Can anyone say what program crdl.dll is related to? It may not be Nero, of course.
