win 98 no sound

novice pc user, on booting up i had no sound checked all the normal things,looked in device manager- under system devices processor support has the yellow exclamation mark next to it.there appears to be a driver missing file ( code2 )info on files = WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\UPDATE.SYS and WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NTKERN.VXD no files on my win 98cd or @ windows site also tried several sites on the net. its a intel mm99c288a 706 mhz
