    Hi,
I have a Dell Latitude XPI CD Laptop that I thought had shorted out. It turned out it was the PCMCIA Modem Card that shorted out and gave me a shock when I touched it. It also overheats after awhile (there seems to be no vents in it).
But in all the ruckus Win 98 has gotten corrupted or something. It says mso9.dll file missing. And WPEQU532.DLL -click which program you wish to open this file. That's on start up. I would reinstall 98 but I don't have the disk. I have 95 and NT. Would installing either of those solve the problem and which would be better? I am not familiar with NT. I got it at the flea market. I tried finding the dll files online but the one I downloaded wouldn't install on the laptop. By the way, the laptop has no internet access. If I go from 98 down to 95 or NT how do I do that? I have upgraded and installed on a fresh hard drive but never went down with it.:confused Thanks.

    Hi

Quick thought do you have Microsoft Office on this PC as those two files are from Office so do a repair install whichever one you have as that should add the files back. (which version Office?)

In Office the repair option can be found in the Help menu and Detect and Repair.

WordPerfect Equation filter (WpEqu532.DLL) is a converter which Office could have added or if you added an Office Conversion Pack then reinstall that, here is likely download

Thanks for the info. I have downloaded the application but have to burn it to a disk yet. No internet on the laptop. By the way, if you slide a laptop on your leg in the process of picking it up, could that give you a jolt of static electricity? At first I thought it was the pcmcia card but it's done it a couple of times since. It's not that much of a shock though. I just don't see how the laptop could give an electrical charge through plastic but I want to be safe. I think I have it sold but I want to make sure it's in good condition before I let it go. Thanks.

My laptop used to regularly do this to me. I was told it can often happen in dry rooms, and as we have a woodburner it was excessively dry in the house, but mine were more than basic static shock. Mine used to zap me when I picked it up through the venting grill of the cpu. These "shocks" are not very good for your laptop and are AC not DC. I had to replace my CPU and MB eventually.

Simple resolve in the short term is to wear shoes and get a better grounding. Probably want to determine the exact problem before moving it on to someone else though.

    Hi,
Thanks. I was really unsure what to do there. I will problably trash it. It would cost more to fix than it's worth. Where is a good recycle place? I don't want to throw in the landfill. Thanks again.:)

If you are in the US, Staples will recycle any Dell product free - you do not have to purchase anything. (I have a Dell CRT monitor so if I can't give it to a new computer owner, I will give it to Staples).
