Win Explorer freezing on networked WinMe PC

I have a PIII 866Mhz WinMe PC connected on a network. I have file and printer sharing enabled. I have noticed that everytime I connect from the WinMe to another shared drive on the network (whether I map the drive as a drive letter or just connect to it directly), that eventually the WinMe PC almost comes to a standstill while trying to copy files between the to PCs. Basically the WinMe PC becomes almost completely non-responsive.

If I wait long enough (could be several minutes or more), all of a sudden I finally can do
something again. But the same freezing occurs immediately when I try to copy/move another file or create a new directory..etc. If I shut down the WinMe
explorer windows (and or disconnect the mapped drive) problem goes away.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this? I have had no luck searching thru Microsofts Knowledge base on this problem.

Note: This does not seem to happen if I do the same thing on other PCs on my network (all use different OS's - Win98se, Win2K, WinXP). Even if I connect from these other PCs to the WinMe system, it seems OK.

Hmmm! No one has any ideas to share on this one. By the way the PC is totally clean virus. I'm up to date with McAfee VirusScan definitions and I have also used several spyware detectors to cleanup all the spyware junk. I have also deleted all cookies, history, and temp internet stuff and performed a scandisk and a defrag. I still have the same problem.
