Win Me Sign-on Changed

After reinstalling Win Me in my Dell Dimension 4100 the following issues have surfaced:
(1) When Windows boots I get a larger log-on screen which is titled "Network Password" instead of "Welcome To Windows". The Dell Help screen says to simply hit cancel and this screen will not return. Wrong! I almost always get the Network screen. I have had my share of Windows crashes, possibly related to this problem.
(2) Prior to me reloading WinMe, the "Safe Mode" is not available. I have tried screen using Ctrl at power up, no "F" key options are provided. The Bios screens (using the Del key) don't seem to provide a Safe Mode. The Start Up disk does show a Safe Mode option #, but when pressed I get the A drive prompt only.

 

You need to turn of windows networking (sounds like its trying to log onto a domain controller for some reason)... but as i dont have ME i really cant remember how. It seems to think that youre on a network. Shot in the dark, Control Panel, network settings... umm, have a look in there i really cant remember at all. Hopefully someone who knows ME better will answer

and just had this same problem when I installed DSL and an ethernet card. here is the fix!!!

By standard there is only a single user profile, which is automaticly logged in, but if Network Neighborhood is installed then it might request for login. This login can be disabled by going to Control Panel -> Network-Applet -> Configuration-Tab -> Change "Primary Network Logon" from "Client for Microsoft Network" to "Windows Logon"
