I've seen this app on the main page and was always curious about it. One of my friends has it, but he couldn't really tell what it does. He said he just got it because the dog barks. You can call me suspicious, but I'm not too sure I want something on my machine that barks at me!!! Anyhow, is 'WinPatrol' something worth having, or is it just 'cute?' I read the description, but is it an app that works? I was going to download just to see if it REALLY does bark, but I thought I'd ask for an opinion first. I guess I'm just too picky, especially since this is the first machine I ever built. THANKS!!!

Win patrol is an installation monitor. It mostly monitors what gets put into your registry, so if a particular "nasty" is trying to install itself, "Scotty" will bark at the intrusion, so to speak.

The software has been made available since 1997, so it may be reputable. I prefer MS antispyware instead, but if you have windows 98/ME then winpatrol may indeed be the way to go. :)

I use WinPatrol and have nothing bad to say about it. Its a good extra program to have.

    WinPatrol displays:
    • Windows Startup Programs
    • IE Helpers(BHO)
    • Scheduled Tasks
    • Active Tasks
    • Cookies
    • File Types
