Hello, I got a old pc from a friend about a month ago, and while cleaning up all the trash he had on their, I accidentally deleted real tek audio. I googled and found the drivers but it did not work, also my IDT codec is reporting (error 10) and after doing every possible thing windows help told me It didn't work.

OS: Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail) service pack 3
    MB: Dualcore Intel Pentium D 820, 2800 MHz (14 x 200)
    Dell dell DM061

If you need more info just let me know!

Since it's a Dell computer, go to the Dell Support site, put in the Service Tag number or let the site automatically determine the Service Tag and go to the Drivers and Downloads tab.

You'll be able to download all of the drivers and manuals for that computer.:)

    A few things to check . . .

Check under Services and make sure Windows Audio is present, running, and set to automatic. Also check in the BIOS and make sure the onboard audio (if not using a PCI audio card) is still enabled.

    Hi

Do note to install the Chipset driver for that model Dell first from the Drivers and Support site and reboot and then install the Audio driver, reboot and test out, if not check the info Spad posted about the BIOS settings,

But also run this troubleshooter HERE for audio if the BIOS settings are ok.

Do tell us what devices in Device Manager have yellow ! marks next to them if there are any.

can't find if windows audio is present or not :(
did the BIOS scan that DavidGP suggested, and it told me what everything else has.
Location:Location 65535 (internal definition audio bus)
IDT high definition audio codec cannot start (code 10)

    Hi

The info that mdonah posted on Dell Service Tag and then finding the correct drivers will help you fix this, but from what you have posted so far its likely you have a Dell Dimension E520 and the drivers are below, in stall as written

Download both these drivers but do not install yet, Chipset and Audio.

Then install the Chipset and reboot, then install the Audio and reboot and text.

**NOTE if you have being installing Audio drivers you have found randomly on the internet and not from DELL then uninstall them**

Go to RUN, type in Services.msc, and pres Return/Enter. Scroll down the list that appears to find Windows Audio service. It needs to be set to automatic and running for any audio to work in Windows. If by chance it's not there at all, post back and we can fix that in the registry.
