    June 29, 2006:

Could someone enlighten me re Win Clipboard. I do not have any trouble whatsoever doing copy and paste EXCEPT with the Windows Clipboard. I thought you were suppose to be able to copy and paste from the clipboard itself. However, whatever I copy, shows up on the clipboard but the copy and paste functions on the board itself is greyed out. I can copy and paste to anything else but not from the clipboard. Anyone have any idea what is wrong?

    Helen

FURTHER ALONG: I went over to PC Mag & posted & it seems like to me the Windows XP Clipboard Viewer is more complicated that it reads in "Help." The Moderator is even having trouble with it. SO, if anyone has a solution, also go over there & help, if you please, if you have an answer. I don't even know what a "Clipbook Window" is although I know my way around Windows Explorer as I said in that post. I am totally baffled.

If it's any consolation, mine's the same way, and maybe that's just the way it is, since it's that way on every WinXP PC in the house. But I've never considered the need to copy or paste from the Clipboard in the Clipbook Viewer window before. To me, the Clipboard is just this invisible place I put text by highlighting it and pressing Ctrl-C or Shift-Del and retrieve it by pressing Shift-Insert-- I never open the viewer.

Trying to copy and paste on the clipboard would be like trying to park your car in the garage when its already there (poor analogy, but best I can do on short notice - undeveloped brain that I have.):) :)

    To:THE DOUG:

I never knew I could retrieve whatever I copy & paste by pressing Shift-Insert. SO, YOU HAVE SOLVED THAT ISSUE, without having to use the Clipboard. I just don't like anything not to work.

However, I couldn't get Ctrl-C or Shift-Del to do anything. Can you further explain to me. Your knowledge would be helpful, I'm sure, as it was with Shift-Insert. Goodbye Clipboard. MANY THANKS

I don't have any more time to Edit so I need to clarify that I don't understand what Ctrl.-C does (I still don't know). But I figured that Shift-Del simply just deletes your text. SO, I NEED TO KNOW WHAT CTRL-C DOES?

If you have something that you want to copy ....(in word, notepad, webpage, etc.) Control+A will highlight all of it ....then control+C will copy all of it ....then go/open where you want to put it and hit control+V and it will paste....(would think it would be control + P ...but thats to print). You can select parts of sections by holding down the left mouse button and dragging across the section, hold the control button down and do the same with additional sections ...then control+c will copy all that you've highlited.

Looks more like skating than dancing.

In terms of selected or highlighted text, Shift-Delete will both delete the selected text from the current document AND copy it to the clipboard, whereas Delete alone would, well, delete it. Ctrl-C would copy it to the clipboard for pasting elsewhere, without deleting it.

To THE DOUG and TIM W. :

My favorite discussion groups are, of course, Major Geeks & PC Mag. So I hope I'm not out of line to suggest here at Major Geeks that there is an interesting discussion to my thread (by the same title as here) between the PC Mag Lead Analyst & the PC Moderator. Go to the "Windows Help" Forum for the thread. I lean toward the clipboard being "crippled by design" for XP (SP2). But, make up your own mind.

As for me and the little copy & paste that I do, for my purposes, Shift-Insert serves me fine....although "learning" & gleaning new info never goes out of date.

    Many thanks, guys
    Helen (over and out) ;)
