   jagguy Private First Class

   I turn on my PC and I get no icons. I can alt-del-ctrl and that is all. From here it wont shutdown or restart the PC. I have tried a few times to turn off an don via switch but no luck.
   
   The PC is 18 months yrs old.
   
   What do I do?

   In safe mode, click on start then programs then accessories and system tools. Select a restore point and restore the computer to a time before all the problems started. If the first restore point doesn't solve the problem, chose a restore point further back in time. Keep doing this until the computer now boots up correctly in normal mode.
