WIN XP Explorer.exe DON'T START (No Icons on Desktop)

Hi, I'm from Italy.

Short description of troubles.

After use of AVK rootkit, I've got a big problem.
Xp starts up regulary till empty Desktop, no icons, no bars, definitly no explorer.exe; just Ctrl-Alt-Canc.
Now. throw the Task Manager and using Dependency Walker, I'll debug explorer.exe and I can start up every thing properly.

I've already test a lot of solutions: antivirus, your suggestions dear Major, etc., no way at the start up no icons.

Please have 'u some hints to avoid FORMAT C:\

You could do a repair install, It will leave all your files untouched. Also you might want to try going into msconfig and checking for any suspicious items under the startup tab. Let us know if you need help doing any of this.

 

Hi, grazie for replay.

I've already try any thing.
The last is rename explorer.exe in explorer.com ( from cmd, DOS. copy...)
It will work, explorer starts up, but no icons on desk top.

What do now?? Modify register??

I've only ASUS recovery disk, my Itry with a different XP Disk and run a new setup

Hi, setup w'll be the last chance.
Do 'u know a SW for change a term in all the register file, at once.

I've been in Montreal for two months, in 1988, nice city, good skiing, big steacks.
