    FRIENDS
The "search" function for files or partials under previous versions of Windows actually worked pretty good [but I do not inhale Win2000....]. Under XP however, I consistently see goofiness in the "Find" wizard: I have tested my observation with KNOWN-TO-BE-GOOD files [put them on the hard drive on purpose] and had Win XP come up with "FILE NOT FOUND" report. Repeatedly!

If you have an analysis of this issue and/or cure please post here.

Do you have Hide Protected System Files unticked and Show Hidden Files and Folders checked?

yessir, so far as I can tell, per File /folder/view options nothing is hidden. I tried this repeatedly with a couple of ordinary run-of-the-mill files [well, they were executables] and turned up nada, even though one of them was running in the background simultaneously!!! crazy. I wonder if the routine they employ in Win XP is materially different: I maintain a handful of Win ME and 98SE machines and see none of this at all on them: when you search them, you find EVERYthing associated

    scratching the noggin'. ....
