win xp pro login

I bought my fathers old computer awhile ago and formated it and loaded my win xp pro OS. It has been sitting for a couple of months now and I have started to work on it again. When I orig. set it up for the login screen I wrote down the password to login. I must not have copied it down correctly as I can not login.
Is there a way to bypass this? I have tried starting up under safe mode but still get stuck at the login screen password.
Loaded SP2 as well.

This looks like a risky way of going about this. Could not somebody get control of the host computer that you get the disk from? Do you know of anybody that has done this and what did they do to prevent this.

 

I did it the other day. If you read the thread carefully we suggested a password change. With that password change I recommend a pass phrase be used instead of some 8 char password. Your "pass" can be 200 some odd characters. It's makes things safer for you as trying to crack a passphrase like "My number 1 dog ate my homework" is very very difficult.

 

Make sure the Cap's lock is not on?
