    Win. XP Pro.

    Dell Optiplex GX260 Series, Intel Pentium 4 Processer 2.40GHz, 256MB DDR SDRam. I think she has SP2 downloaded.

    This machine belongs to my grand daughter!! She called me & said her pc would not turn on.

    I went over & it turns on but it goes to a blue screen that says there could be trouble with new hardware or software. It only has a printer connected & that has been there since the machine was new. She told me the only software she had installed was AIM.

    I can open set up & I can go to safe mode but nothing works. No matter what choice you select, it always goes back to the above blue screen.

    If there was someway to get into it, I could probably clean it up.

    Any Hope At All??

    Thanks, jackg304

    That is the kicker, you could try the Recovery Console which can be installed and should also be available from the installation disk. You could try UBCD4Win:

    Disconnect any external hardware such as the printer, any wireless adapters or cards, etc. Remove and reseat the RAM module. Problem may be a Trojan, a device driver, DEP. My money goes on the Trojan. (Trojan.Win32.Agent.aw) You might be able to slave the drive on another PC and scan it with MBAM, SAS, etc. for malware. If it is a driver issue, I see you are using the Dell forums, the page for drivers is here:

    Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance, hope you have the means to reinstall the Operating System if it comes to that, would also suggest additional RAM if the budget is accommodating.

    Hey jack, yeah just download that file Bugballu linked to and then you have to burn it as a disc image!

    If you are not sure how to this, download and install this program...

    Infrarecorder --> http://majorgeeks.com/InfraRecorder_d6206.html

    Once it is installed and you run it you will see a screen with 6 options, one of which says "write image" [it's the bottom left one]

    Then once you have done that just put the disc in the CD drive of the PC and reboot and it will load.

    I have just had a look at that bluescreen view and it certainly cant do any harm so it might be worth giving it a run.
