   I thought win XP kept backups of the registry somewhere, but I cant seem to find them, anyone know where they are kept or if I am mistaken?

   I think it backs it up when it creates a system restore point. It creates a restore point every time you install a program or uninstall a program. This is of course only works if system restore is enabled.
