Win XP Shutdown Issue

Hi Everyone: Well here I am again with another issue, here goes when I go to shutdown and click on the shutdown button it say's logging off, saving settings, windows is shutting down,
then just shuts down no it is now safe to turn off your computer, it seems like no time for hdd to power down. Is this normal? I have been through four hdd in the past three years.
A IBM 25gb,IBM27gb,Maxtor 40gb, Maxtor 60gb,I am now running a samsung 80gb,did the
same thing win I was running win 98se,I was thinking this might be a problem area to
consider.Any input would be appreciated. same motherboard soyo kt 333 lite.Sorry to

It is the normal shutdown procedure for XP.

 

Full shutdown is normal for Windows XP. Win98 dated back to when a lot of puters were still on old AT format motherboard/power supply setups, where turning off the computer power required using a physical switch. Since the current ATX boards control power directly from the motherboard, Windows XP takes that extra step and does it for you.
