I have Win XP Home edition, SP3, 2.00 GB Ram, which shows 75% free most of the time, Intel Dual Core Processor..2.4 GZ HZ..the swap file has an entire drive to itself. I do not habitually download programs and install/uninstall..I have no malware on my system as indicated by Panda cloud, Malware Bytes Antimalware, Ad aware, or removeit pro..or even Hijackthis..I have the system set to "adjust for best performance" and plenty of free space on my C Drive....all de-fragged to death but it still insists on thrashing the hell out of my hard drive when I try to do anything. The longer I leave my pc on the worse it gets, so bad sometimes that even with NO other programs running it takes anything up to 2 minutes to even load a web page..or if I try to access another drive it takes ages to even open that..my web access returns 4 meg/sec download time..is this typical MS Windows crap, I really don't want to have to uninstall and re do Windows AGAIN....can anyone help me here please?..the symptoms are exactly as if it is running out of resources, which it clearly isn't..:cry

    Hi

Malware is a potential and this guide may help (if anything found then do start a new thread in the malware forum and attach the logs)

As for typical Windows "crap" then in most instances ist 3rd party software that causes this, so do boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and choose Safe Mode with Networking and is it the same?

Try disabling all startups with msconfig and rebooting, is it the same? if not then enable and reboot one at a time to test if one startup app is the cause.

    Do you use P2P apps?

Try also disabling the indexing service HERE and if you have Google apps installed which installs google desktop search uninstall it,

*do try not to use .. in ... the .. middle of sentences as your post will me moderated and not visable until a forum admin has approved the post, the forum software thinks its spam and moderates them*

    Hi Halo,

Many many thanks for the quick reply, apologies for the content, frustration there. I already disabled Indexing thanks, I don't have or use Google apps , have done a chkdsk on all my drives and all is fine there. I sometimes use u torrent but not all that often and avoid pirate apps and films for the malware issues there. I did disable all start ups and it ran a bit better but then started disk thrashing again. I also ran in safe mode and it is slow there with disk thrashing too. I have downloaded and installed the app from Plodr ( what is my pc doing) and will use that for a while to see why it is thrashing. I also intend to do as you suggest and start with adding 1 start up program at a time to see which does the nasty. Could take a while as the trashing doesn't really start until I have had the pc on for a while, few hours mainly. Thanks so much Guys. :)
