Win XP SP2 help

Hello,

I helped a friend out by removing some spyware, etc. and in the end, her computer updated with SP2. She called me a few days later and said it 'wouldn't boot'.

Long story short--she has one of the Intel P4 processors that doesn't like SP2. I'm 99% sure. I did a /chkdsk /r and it locked up at around 65% I reboted and was able to get into safe mode and remove SP2.

Now, I can only boot in safemode. When I try to boot normally, I get the windows Home splash screen, then the screen goes black and the light on the monitor changes from green to orange (no signal) and will sit there forever.

Can anyone help me get back to where I was before SP2?

 

How did you remove SP2? If you shutdown System Restore during the spyware removal, all your restore points before that are gone, so you should have removed SP2 in Normal boot mode through A/R Programs, if you did it another way, you could be in trouble. Someone with more experience will know better and be along soon

 

I had to remove restore points because there were about 20 viruses and untold amounts of spyware. I don't think the first one I re-created 'took' because I can't boot to it.

I removed SP2 by finally getting it into safe mode after running chkdsk /r and removing it via add/remove programs, then I rebooted.
