I want to downgrade from XP to ME. How do I do a clean install of ME? The ME startup boot disc cannot format harddrive C (with NTFS). Does ME support NTFS?
    please help.

Why ever would you want to go to one of the most unstable os on the market? Visit http://www.startdisk.com/ and doenload a bootdisk utility for windows me. you have to install this to a floppy but can;t do it on an xp, borrow a 98se or me and install it to the floppy. when you are done, stick the disk in the floppy of the xp and boot to the floppy, form there you can follow directions to wipe the drive. I hope you got Me cdrom with the OS. BTW, Me will keep running fairly well if you stay on top of your updates

I've had ME for four years now, more or less. It has been very stable for me, but I have had to work at it. Constantly going to update, hypervigilant on baddies, etc. I'd take XP in a heart beat. The only way tho is to get a new comp, and momma got a death grip on the checkbook!! ;)

I couldn't agree more. Downgrading to an OS of yesteryear is not a good idea. The answer is to either deal with the problem or clean install XP, either one of which we can help you with here.
I wouldn't install anything but XP on your hardware.

I agree. Running any 9x system on this hardware would be a nightmare. SATA + Win9x = bad. More than 512 MB Ram + Win9x = bad. I'm uncertain how well DirectX 9 and a current generation video card will work on Win9x. I expect you'll see a significant performance loss.

If you absolutely must downgrade (for example, you're selling your copy of XP). then you will need to delete the NTFS partition with FDISK, and then create a new partition to be formatted with FAT32. Win9x (including ME) has no support for the NTFS file system.

Thank you for all the informative inputs. I will stay with XP.
