Ok so here is my situation.

I bought a brad new Ipod Video, 30g, very nice all around. This was like a 2 months ago.

While reading the required specs, I noticed it required SP2 to work. Eh not much of a problem, I already had that installed, no biggie.

Problem was that last week my HDD died, which lead to buying a new one, and reinstalling of everthing. After that I noticed I just couldnt get to install SP2 on my new HDD thanks to the retarded Genuine Advantage crap.

Are there any ways to work around this? Like any at all?

Be it some sort of crack to avoid the WGA; or some sort of program that leads the Ipod to believe that SP2 is actually installed, or anything?

I hate it how Bill Gates is preventing me from using my Ipod =(

Yeah, buy a legit copy of Windows.

How's Bill Gates preventing you from using your Ipod? Because he had his minions come up with the WGA because he got tried of so many people ripping him off?

Hey, nice PM. I'll never get over my lawful self. ;)

I always think before I post...more people need to do that. As a matter of fact, I was thinking how much more software costs for me because folks like you would rather steal it than buy it. If you developed something and folks stole from you, how would you feel?

I'll let the rest of your message speak for itself.

Tell you what I'll do, you prove to me you are having financial hardships and cannot afford to purchase a legit copy instead of being so cavalier about your hot copy of Windows, and I'll buy you an upgrade version of XP.

I'll look for your reply in this thread, not in my PM box.

This thread just became more interesting.

How do you want to go about this?

I was thinking income - monthly spending, pretty simple. Course this would imply puting up on a public forum personal details, so I would rather do it over PM, but if you insist, I wouldnt mind doing it on the thread.

Lay out the boundaries, otherwise this would be too easy to prove.

As you stated in your original post, you bought an Ipod and you bought a new hard drive. I'm wondering why you couldn't buy a legit copy of Windows, too; depending on what exactly you bought, it could be the least expensive of the three.

I'm not performing an audit, just a simple answer of justification. And don't be concerned about any personal data being shared in the thread; if you convince me you can PM me your address as I wouldn't expect that info to be posted publicly.

    Ok, clarifications.

    1) A legal copy of windows XP costs 230 dollars (rounded down) in Chile.

    2) I had my brother buy my Ipod in the US, cost 280 dollars, while he was on a trip over there.

    3) HDD is actually a lot cheaper, 45 Dollars (rounded down). (this was loaned to me by my father, since it would have taken me a while to come up with that money and I needed my computer to work on University assignments)

So yeah, while the Ipod is clearly the most expensive of the 3, the Windows XP at chilean pricing isnt so far below, the HDD on the other hand is a lot cheaper.

I worked 2 summers to have the sort of money to buy the ipod. Meaning I have to work another 2 summers to USE it? I dont think so.

    Satisfied?

PS: By just looking at the pricing of the software people should instantly see why piracy exists, dont you think so? You can get an ilegal version of Win XP for... 5 dollars?

PSS: In case you are wondering. 1 Dollar = 541 Pesos (todays exchange rate)

I had gone by your original post that you had bought everything, but that wasn't the case judging by your clarifications. That's okay, I deal with disclaimers all the time. ;)

As I mentioned in my second post, I'm offering to buy you an upgrade copy of XP, not a full version. As you are already running a bootleg copy of XP, your system should be up to specs. For an upgrade copy to function on your current computer, it must have had a previous operating system on it (95, 98, ME, 2k, etc.). An upgrade copy of XP here in the U.S. is $109.00 USD.

You haven't really justified why you won't put out for your own legal copy of Windows. Hell, you can get hot Ipods over here for $20.00, so don't try and convince me software piracy is the only type of piracy out there. And I won't ask you why you felt you needed to spend money on an Ipod before an OS for your university computer; that's all moot now. Besides, most music these days sucks.

Go ahead and PM me your mailing address; if I can help one person go legit thats fine, if it helps with school studies all the better. I work for an agency of the U.S. Government, we are paid monthly via direct deposit on the 25th of each month. Your upgrade copy of XP will go out the next day.

    Good luck with your studies.

Sure, if you convince me how a copy of Windows will help your water heater run. ;)

Or be able to load a genuine MS CD (for those operating systems) when XP asks for it, as part of the installation. Bazza
