I have cleaned up this computer 3 times before and am staying up late to fix it for the disabled lady upstairs. Unfortunately, I over-estimated my skill and tried to change the Network ID information. Now I can't get into the computer!!!!

It used to be a company computer so I tried to take their company name and password out and put new ones in for my friend. I obviously missed something; like I said, can't get it to open. There is no disk, it was given to her and I clean it up to give her "something" instead of "nothing". Now I've screwed it up and can't get into it.

I was able to get into the BIOS page and changed the top line to the only other choice. I was hoping it meant it wouldn't need a log-in but it didn't change that. I can't see anything else I can do.

I also have a disability (brain injuries) and it'll be horrible to figure out how to pay someone else to fix this.

Please please help if possible :cry

    Hi,
Can you boot in safe mode (F8,F2,F5), if you can just roll the machine back to before you made the changes with network ID. If not, then i suggest that you may have to do a clean install of an OS, is there still the COA sticker on the machine?? you may be able to approach MS to obtain an OS install disc, or ask about to see if someone can lend you one. I think microsoft have now stopped updates for 2k now, IMO i would be looking at getting a new OS, as vanlong441 has offered Linux is a good option as it is free, though i can't comment on it as i personally have not used it, but have read good revues, I think you can pull your friends data off the other OS if linux is used as a dual boot also, maybe some one can help you that way if you can't roll the machine back.

I so much appreciate everyone's help!! I've been sick a few weeks and apologize for the delay.

It turns out the tech I had to get in had never seen, in 12 years of doing this job, a computer that didn't have a boot choice in the BIOS. So it wasn't just me at least ;)

My friend ended up having to get a new refurbished computer from him. Thank you again to the great people at this site!! :)
