Win2000 help with Internet Explorer, after deleting trojan ecommerce

HELP!!!!! I am desperate!

Ok, long story short- My PC got infected with spyware/Trojan called "Ecommerce" Dialer.exe. After 3 MONTHS I managed to get it out of my system (a network admin. from work offered to help and help he did!). BUT now I cannot use my Internet Explorer. I have tried doing an update from the Win2000 system files, but it did not work. I do not have my 2000 cd-rom. I have my reg. code though. My friend suggested I do a clean install (from system files, not disc) but I am afraid I will lose all of my files/data etc. Is there any way I can fix this issue when I cannot connect to internet, and I do not have my disc?

Well, one thing you can try is to download IE from MS and reinstall:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/ie6sp1/default.asp

It also might help to visit Windows Update and install the latest Service Pack and critical updates.

 

I can't get onto the internet so how do I get Internet explorer again?

 

what kind of errors happen when you attempt to connect to the net?

 

"Internet Explorer Can Not Open The Search Page" AND "Cannot find server" (DNS etc.) And I called my ISP 8 times and they cannot seem to tell me anything new each time I call. I have Earthlink and I have still been unable to connect.

have you tried re-creating your dial up connection?

 

I have tried several times, deleting the old one and creating a new connection, and the help-desk's at Earthlink have tried that as well as giving me the dns addresses to type manually, and a few other things, but every time I call I get someone new and they do the same stuff over and over it is so frustrating I was almost cussing them on the phone. I don't know if it is because I had this ecommerce trojan (which BTW is totally history or if it is Earthlink.

Right click on your Dial up connection and choose properties. You should have a list of all protocols installed. Select TCP/IP and click on uninstall. Reboot. And then reinstall TCP/IP.

 

How do I reinstall? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I really do appreciate your help

 

next to the uninstall button there is an INSTALL button. choose PROTOCOL on the left, then MICROSOFT on the left and then TCP/IP on the right.

 

Thanks I will try that tonight after work. Any other ideas because I am at a loss and I really dont want to have to take it somewhere $$ that I don't have!

 

The only other thing I could think of is to completely uninstall and reinstall your modem and update its' drivers.. but I would start with TCP/IP first.

 

I don't know how to do that, it came with the PC.

 

Well last night I tried uninstalling the TCP/IP and reinstalling, and it didn't do anything. It just keeps saying "error 619- The port is disconnected or not responding" Any idea's anyone?
