    Dell Latitude C810 laptop is unable to boot in any mode. Unknown BSOD before this happened.
    Normal boot goes to splash screen and hangs at first bar.
    Any Safe Mode only loads 4 files and then hangs -
    System32\ntoskrnl.exe
    System32\hal.dll
    System32\BOOTVID.dll
    System32\config\system

    Have a Win2000 Pro retail disc at home and am thinking a Repair install to keep info intact or would Recovery Console be needed? This would need to be installed.

    W2K does not have a repair install option, sorry.

    It does have the repair console, pretty much as the XP one if you are familiar with that.

    You can also try a do-it-yourself system restore as W2k stores the first registry created at installation in

    c:\windows\repair

    If you go for a reinstallation you can make it an erzatz Dell CD as follows

    edit the PID in setupp.ini to (in the i386 folder)

    PID= 55274OEM

    You will need to either create a new CD with nlite
    or
    create a spare partition on the hard drive and copy the i386 folder there and isntall from the hard drive.

    Doing this will allow you to use the Dell COA number.
