Not exactly sure where this is supposed to go, but here it is anyway.

My drivers went screwy on me (fixed now), but I did a backup before trying new ones. Somehow I managed to do a full backup directly on the hard drive.

It's taking up a nice 4 gigs (my HD is 18 gigs) and I would like that room back. Got multiple programs to search the HD to find it, not sure exactly where it would be located.

Went to the backups to see if I could delete it from there; there is an option to delete it from the system. However that didn't work, said it couldn't do it at the time. Got on Safe mode next to try, option doesn't pop up there.

Well thanks for your help, if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Right-click on your c: drive and select search. Under Search For Files And Folders Named, type *.bkf, and press search. This will list every bkf file on your C: drive (hopefully you don't have too many!), as well as their absolute path. From there, you can manually delete that whopper of a backup file. :)

Though, for future reference, the destination directory can be found by checking the field in the attached screenshot.

    C:\backup 11:02 feb 13.bkf is destination.

Tried this before several times, but whenever I enter *.bkf to search, it comes up with no results.

    And I've done it searching backup 11:02 feb 13.bkf, rather than searching C:\backup 11:02 feb 13.bkf . I'm not that stupid. :)

Searched Desktop several times for the file named: backup 11:02 feb 13.bkf with no actual results ending with a .bkf

Did it perhaps become hidden somehow? Make sure that you specify to find hidden files and folders in the search dialog, and it couldn't hurt to turn on viewing of hidden files and folders, even if temporarily. You can do that by selecting the Folder Options function from the Tools menu of windows explorer. On the tab, select the radio button that says Show Hidden Files and folders, and click ok.

If you can't find it after that, either it doesn't exist, or you have a much more serious problem. At that point I would recommend you to the Malware Removal thread, and suggest that you run a chkdsk /r.

Hmm, I might check into the Malware.

There is an option to restore the backup into a single folder. Think it's possible to do this into a single folder without screwing with the system and deleting it from there?

If you restore from a backup of your entire C drive, you will be recreating your C drive in that folder, and you will still have the backup file. I believe this will just use up more room.

All right, forget that option then.

Now I see something called Backup 11, fits exactly in with the time that I made the backup. Has no file extension though and says its 0 KB.

Any ideas if this could be it?
