    Hi

Here's an interesting problem we have at work that someone here can probably help with. (Contacting MIS in Chicago only guarantees an answer this millenium).

We have a small p2p network consisting of 7 Dell Latitude Csx laptops all running Win2K Pro SP4, all updates installed. We connect to the internet, (and run Notes R5) through a shared broadband connection.

The strange thing is some machines, mine for example;), can see everything, some can see 1 or 2 machines, some cannot even see themselves.

    Puzzling....any ideas anyone?

Thanks Adrynaline. Some can ping at Comp name or IP address, those are the machines which can see others through My Network Places.

Do you have the NetBEUI protocol installed on all machines? Win2k still uses NetBIOS over TCP/IP to do LAN networking.

And, obviously, they should all be in the same workgroup.

Yeah but different workgroups does not stop sharing...

These machines you cannot ping, do they give Ping request timed out, or destination host unreachable?

Netbeui installed on all machines and all in workgroup.

    Pings time out

Just going out on the Razz now with all the women from work + my wife and her sister who just appeared out of the blue from the other side of the country. If I don't answer straight away it's cos I'm out there somewhere:D

Had similar problem at home network 3 computers, broadband connection, Dlink router.
I had Mcafee 7.0 virus scan and firewall running also router has firewall running in stealth mode. could not ping. A friend came over to help solve. solution was turning off Mcafee firewall than I was able to see all computers still running virus scan and router firewall in stealth mode, can ping within network but not from outside I'm blocking ping from wang router setting.
It took afew min. for pc with win2000 to see and be seen also restart all pc after changes and settings.

    Good Luck!

    Thanks folks

All machines have Sygate Personal Firewall, Netbios is enabled, all have different names, we are a cabling co. so we know data connections are ok.

In Sygate, go Tools/Options, Network Neighborhood tab. Make sure the appropriate checkboxes are enabled.
