WIN32/GAELICUM.A Aftermath

I recently fixed my computer using a tool called VCleaner. The virus is gone now, but I am stuck with some missing files. I try to install a program, and it says that I do not have access. Also, there are errors where the Windows Installer is missing. How can I repair my Windows? I have a different Windows XP cd because I bought a dell dimension 2400. I do not want to reinstall Windows or reformat. Thanks

 

I ended up running the VCleaner a couple times after the initial scan just to make sure all the corrupted files were gone. All the scans after returned no virus results. The virus is gone now, but I suspect that some of the services have been deleted. (not by VCleaner, I deleted them by AVG)

 

What problems are you currently experiencing?

 

Currently here are some problems:

With FIREFOX: I click on a bookmark, and it says it cannot be found, but when i click the bookmark again, it goes to that site.

2) Error messages like this: Application cannnot run due to an error while verifying its electronic certificate.

3) When i tried to install an item, an error message liek this: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item.

4) I installed Windows Installer 2.0 because when I tried to clean my computer, that went missing. (I suspect its some sort of installation wizard missing then?) I do not think it is working because when I go to the Control Panel, and try to remove a program, the following error appears: Could not initialize installation. System DLLs corrupt or missing. I know that they aren't corrupt anymore, because I don't experience the problems I did before, and Im confident that they are missing because some of them got deleted.

5) Another problem that I noticed is that after a couple hours, the internet connection is lost. Wierd. Thanks a lot.

 

If your having all of those problems you most likely will need to do a "Repair Reinstall" on your OS to fix those issues and replace those files.

 

Will I have to reinstall all my program files as well? Or does it just scan for missing files, and then install them? This is my main concern. Thanks a lot,

 

I "updated" windows using the installation CD. That didn't work.

 

You need to do a reinstall repair, which replaces all of the system files and others that are missing or corrupt. Doing this will fix your problems with the missing and corrupt files.

If you need help doing this then post in the Software Forum and those guys will help you with that.

You also need to install the latest version of the Windows Installer which is Windows Installer 3.1.
