win32.hidrag.a

    AVG picked up that I had the win32.hidrag.a virus. Apparently it's a nasty one. I've gone through your read and run, etc. but my question before doing the rest and spending our time is can I just rebuild the computer by starting at format c and be sure it's gone. I mean, as long as I clean out any files on other devices such as USB before running anything of course.

    If you want to just do a reformat and clean install it will remove any virus's on you system. Just let us know what you want to do.

    Thanks Tim. One further question. What is the surest way to use all those files I backed up before formatting without getting the virus back? For instance, if I hook up the external drive with them on it, will AVG detect them 100% or is there something else for this particular virus...

    Perhaps it would be best if you went ahead and attached the logs you have gotten from doing the R&R so I can see how bad the infection is and what all is compromised.

    I'm confused. I copied the files I needed then formatted and rebuilt the machine with a clean disk. I still need to provide you with what r&r says in this case?

    Sorry, I misunderstood you. If you have already reformated, then I assume you have installed your AV software as well as SAS and MBAM. Scan your backed up files with each before you transfer them back to your computer. ;)
