Win7/64 Laptop Progress Report

Hi! I've been working on getting an administrator password for my WIn7/64 laptop at my day program. I burned a CD with the Redo Rescue program on it. It booted. Then, when I clicked Run Redo Rescue, I got an all-black window in the middle of the screen. Is there a compatibility issue?

 

not exactly sure what you mean by this.

so i'll use my crystal ball ... last few computers that we bought at my work place, in order for me to boot the computers with rescue utilities [ written to either a dvd or usb thumb drive ]. i had to go into the BIOS and disable all those new features, i forget what they are called, like secure boot, whatever the trusted computing thing is, and something else. and then i had to enable things like legacy mode, rejigger the boot order so that cd drive and usb were recognized and part of the boot order, and there was something with uefi(?) that i had to disable. this was all last year and i don't quite remember. until i did this, booting the computers with usb/dvd was either ignored, or it did boot, but the program i wanted never loaded.

i was trying to make images of the computers with acronis true image. it was weird because i could boot most of the work computers with a usb thumb drive with ventoy on it and an iso of acronis true image. but i had a couple of computers that only worked with the iso burned to a cd/dvd. i have stopped trying to figure out some things as long as my 2nd option allows me to do what i want.

anyway, not sure what i am trying to say, just that all the new BIOS features can get in the way until they are disabled and the old ways re-enabled. good luck with it.

Other than RedoRescue, what program can I use to change an Administrator password if I don't currently know it? I can burn it to a CD, but the system doesn't boot from a flash drive.

I downloaded them and tried to burn them to CD but got a warning that the ISOs aren't bootable. Don't I need them to be bootable so I can make the changes?

 

yes, i would think so. not sure what to think.
maybe try a different program to burn the iso to CD
