    Win7/avast/hostman
    M4a88TD-v evo/usb3 mobo

Got a new desktop computer, been trying to get it to connect to the internet via wired connection however it cannot in win7

-can connect to the internet if i use express gate
    -can connect to the router
-can see and ping others on the network
-others can see and ping me on the network
-renews its ip if i set the computer's ip in the router

    Things ive tried
    Stack fix
Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

    Uninstalling and Reinstalling drivers

    Disabled Avast, hostman and firewall

    Reset router

Power cycled Router (after disconnecting all devices and connecting with the problem one first)

    Changed the cable

Connected other computers up with that cable (they all got internet)

Ping websites (Fail but can ping anything on the network)

Called the ISP to have them do their diagnostics and to test and reset the connection (no luck)

Thanks in advance for the help

    Have you tried,
connecting the computer to a different network?
    OR
connecting the computer directly to your modem?

also what is your ISP, Modem and router?

its one of those 2 in 1 pieces of crap that the ISP gave me. Modem and router are one. Unfortunately i do not have access to other networks to plug this computer into. However other computers can connect to this network just fine. Even tried hooking up the other computers with the ethernet cable that the problem computer was using and works fine for them.

    ISP is bell

    Modem/Router is a 2WIRE Gateway

the first thing that i can think of is MAC filtering, maybe somehow it got turned on and it is stopping your new computer from accessing the internet, the information you sent me does not send any red flags to me, check your settings on your router, do a ipconfig /release then /renew /dnsflush

Let me do a little research because this is one problem i haven't seen before and i will get back to you

Yeah it is a bit of an odd one. I had found the mac filtering area and played around with the settings trying to get it through. Reserved an ip for the mac address of the computer which the computer recognizes and uses when i release and renew. Nothing changes if i remove the filter settings i put on it. DNS flush did not change the dns settings or any of the ip/mac settings. Went through all the settings with the ISP folks and have restored it to factory defaults twice now playing with it.

Im going to keep browsing around and if i turn up anything ill let you know. Otherwise, thanks for all the help mate. Hopefully we can figure out what it is (and its likely something silly...) soon.

tried doing a tracert and ping to yahoo after the flushing and got the following results:

Upon seeing the results i got curious and tried internet again. Although win7 said i had no connection, i could surf. Getting curious again... i restarted the computer and tried connecting again. Nothing. Did the flushing again, still nothing. It would appear as if it is just taking a very long time for it to connect (more than 30 mins)

EDIT: Doing another trace and ping to see what happens on a fresh restart

update. found it takes about 15-20 minutes from the time it connects to the router to the time it connects to the internet. Not really sure what is causing this. Will continue investigating

have you checked the firewall on your router to see where it is set. if it is to high it could limit your computer.

Ive tried disabling the firewall on both the desktop and the router. I have also tired changing all the settings so that it might as well be turned off but no change. Still takes 15-20 mins from first connection to ability to browse/access the net

have you tried reinstalling windows, it could be a driver maybe, but i think you said you already changed it.

I will continue to look for a better answer though.

I have reinstalled just about all the drivers at this point. If i havnt gotten something figured out by tomorrow evening im going to reinstall the OS. Hopefully it doesnt come to that but at this point, its looking like the easier option to try.

We shall see what sleep brings.

I think Win 7 x64 cannot work with some older routers.
I know my Netgear one will not without drastic modification with windows and the router. The tech $ is not worth it so I am reluctantly getting a compatible router.

Try setting the DNS server on the 2wire to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

    Hello
I have read quite a bit about problems, however, for some of the more skilled folks, toggling and tweaking may be an option. I got a Belkin and both machines are up and running. They offer lifetime phone support which enticed me.
I can never thank anyone in this forum enough for offering help but in this case we had had it with out lower skill level..
    Thank you
    Peter
