    Hi!
I have trouble connecting to internet using Local Area Connection.
I`m able to connect if I add a Broadband Connection using WAN
Miniport (PPPOE). ( I get no other option when trying to set up a
    new internet connection.)

If I try to diagnose the problem and then check if the fix worked,
I get a message saying: "Local Area Connection" doesn`t have a
valid IP configuration. I`m connected with wire to the modem.

The Local Area Connection icon is also marked/named "Unidentified network"

I have tried to reinstall drivers for Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E
Gigabit Ethernet Controller, with no luck.

TCP/IPv4 is set to Obtain IP and DNS server addresss automitically.

In the beginning of this problem, I could just disable/enable the
connection, but that does not help anymore...

    Please help!

There are some commands and tests to try but test this first.

I'm assuming there are no other computers connected to this internet modem?

    Turn off the computer.
Unplug the power from the modem (DSL? Cable?)
    Wait 2 minutes.
Plug in the power to the modem.
    Wait 2 minutes.
    Turn on the computer.

Let us know if that brings back your connection.

Thank you so much! Why didn`t I think of that! :p
Guess I was put off by the fact that it was working
with PPPOE... The broblem with PPPOE was that it
would only give me 300kB/s up/down.

Thanks again and have a nice day! :D

To try to prevent this from happening again, program the modem to have a few IP's in the DHCP range. Even if there is only one device, sometimes the modem won't release the IP of the computer after it disconnects. If you only have one or two IP's in the range, there won't be any available for the computer when it reconnects even if nothing else is connected. Did that even make sense?

Basically, if your available IP range is small, try making it bigger to see if that prevents a repeat.

I have no clue on how to make the IP range bigger or what it means :)

Sorry, but when it comes to routing and IP`s and stuff like that, I`m on thin ice. :)
I only have a modem from my ISP and don`t have an address to it like I would have
to a router to be able to configure it. So unless there are a way to do this that apply
to any modem, it`s easyer to use the "2 minutes power-off"-method. I have only had
this problem once in 3 years, and it probably happened because of one of these 3 reasons:

-First power blackout in 3 years.
-Fried my graphics card. (a lot of bad things happened for a couple of days until it
finally gave up on me. I had to disconnect everything from my MB, including the
RAM to get it up and running again with the new graphics card.)
    -Switched from XP x64 to WIN7 x64

So, unless this is something caused by WIN7, I hope it`s all good until next time one
of the other two reasons occure again :p

But maybe this IS a problem that I will experience more often, so if you could explain
how to program the modem, or if you have a link that won`t get dead in the future,
    I`ll be very happy :)
