I have installed Win7 Ultimate x64 as a dual boot with Win XP Pro. I installed 3 ea 2GB DDR3 memory modules when I put it together a few months ago. I have been running Win XP only up until a few days ago.

    Copied from Everest:

    Code:
    WinXP Pro SP3:

    CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core i7 920, 2800 MHz (21 x 133)
    Motherboard Name	Asus P6T Deluxe V2 (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x4, 3 PCI-E x16, 6 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Dual Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
Motherboard Chipset	Intel Tylersburg X58, Intel Nehalem

    System Memory 3063 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)

    DIMM1: 2 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-9-9-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-8-8-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-7-7-17 @ 457 MHz) (5-6-6-14 @ 380 MHz)
    DIMM3: 2 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-9-9-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-8-8-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-7-7-17 @ 457 MHz) (5-6-6-14 @ 380 MHz)
    DIMM5: 2 GB DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM (8-9-9-22 @ 609 MHz) (7-8-8-20 @ 533 MHz) (6-7-7-17 @ 457 MHz) (5-6-6-14 @ 380 MHz)

    _________________________________________________________________
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Win7 x64:

    System Memory	4087 MB (DDR3-1333 DDR3 SDRAM)
Everything shown is the same for XP and 7 except for the System memory.

As expected XP recognizes only ~ 3GB

As NOT expected Win7 only recognizes ~4GB instead of the expected 6GB.

Anyone have any idea as to why I'm not getting use of all the memory?

    I have seen a similar problem in Win7 here;

    http://i4memory.com/f80/dfi-ut-x58-ram-issue-can-use-only-4gb-21286/

maybe you will find some tips on this forum. Ensure the RAM modules are in the specific DIMM on the mobo.

These guys are "gurus" when it comes to RAM.

Section 2.4 will show you exactly which DIMM slots should be populated:

    http://i4memory.com/f54/asus-p6t-de...-layout-memory-configuration-bios-info-11498/

    Same mobo and same problem:

    http://i4memory.com/f54/asus-p6t-deluxe-v2-memory-cpu-speed-20794/

    Tweaking that BIOS:

    http://i4memory.com/f54/asus-p6t-deluxe-v2-bios-settings-help-please-19420/

Lots to read I admit but you will get great info there.

    Thank you Bold Eagle,
You're right. It is a lot of reading. And, much of it is a bit over my head. But, I think I can absorb most of it given time and effort on my part. I have a good feeling that the cure is in there somewhere.

Well it seems to be a fairy "common" problem. Just make sure that A1, B1 & C1 DIMM slots are populated (it seems that EVEREST "clearly sees" the RAM though?!?).

Just to clarify is your Win7 a 32 or 64Bit OS?

What is the make of memory? Corsair had to do a "product" recall.

"WIn7 64 only sees 4GB" in google shows lot's of similar issues.

If you find the solution please make sure to post back as I am sure it will help others.

    oops, wrong answer! :-o
I thought you were using 32 bit.

My bad "title states" Win7 64.

It seems some setting in the BIOS (but it is being seen in EVEREST) or the OS is the issue.

Do you recall when and what products this involved Bold Eagle?
Just received some Corsair 1600Mhz and am having the same problem as the OP.
(Will be reading the other links myself. Have some Kingston 1333Mhz which is fully recognized.)
Probably in the BIOSsettings as I'm running Vista Ult 64-bit but have the ASUS P6T Deluxe v1.

    Dominator GT models affected include:

    * TW3X4G1600C6GTF
    * TR3X6G1866C7GTF
    * TR3X6G2000C8GTF
    * TR3X3G2000C7GTF

Not sure if it was "only" limited to those.

    OK,
    It is Win7 x64
    Everest sees 6GB
System Information only sees 4GB Installed Physical Memory [RAM]

    RAM is Crucial CT3KIT25664BA1339 - 3x 2GB
    DDR3 PC3-10600, CL=9, Unbuffered, NON-ECC, DDR3-1333,
    1.5V, 256Meg x 64

Memory modules are installed in the red DIMM sockets = A1, B1 & C1 per the MoBo User Guide.

Video card is a PowerColor ATI Radeon X1650 Pro

I'm wondering if it is more likely to be an OS problem.
I would think that if it was a BIOS problem, Everest would be unlikely to see all 6GB.

But, after I post this I'm going to go into the BIOS and rummage around a bit to see what I can see.
    I'll check back later.
    Thanks again

OK, I seem to have resolved my problem, Maybe!

I ran MemTest86+ v4 on it and got some weird results:

    It showed 3 DDR3 2GB modules installed
It only showed 4GB of memory total available

DMI Memory info said no Module was installed in slot #1

    It checked 175K through 2048M
    2048M through 3064M and
    4096 through5120M
    [4GB]

It was skipping and not checking
    3064M through 4096M and
    5120M through 6144M
    [2GB]

I found nothing in the BIOS Setup that would have an effect on Ram Utilization.

    Last resort:
Pull memory modules out of DIMM sockets
    Move module from A1 to B1, B1 to C1 & C1 to A1

VOILA... 6GB of RAM show up in
    Everest
    System Information
    BIOS
    POST &
    MemTest

If all else fails pull it out and put it back in!

The only part I'm a bit nervous about is now MemTest is checking
    176K to 2048M
    2048M to 3064M
    4096M to 6144M and
    6144M to 7168M

It is skipping 3064M to 4096M, but it is checking 6GB of memory.
I'm not sure what is going on, but as long as I get all 6GB of RAM no matter how it adds up, I'm happy.

Good result I read recently that sometimes the DIMM slots can have some gunk in them (even when new) and they sprayed electronic cleaner into the slots and the RAM worked (after completely drying out the mobo).

Just to revisit this and FYI.
My Corsair RAM is 2 sets of TR3X6G1600C9 which was not indicated in the recalls.
I did 2 things at the same time - switched placement of DIMMs in slots and entered memory settings directly under the XMP and DRAM settings in BIOS.
Used 9-9-9-24-2N. Under XMP the voltage goes to 1.66 automatically.
All 12 GB showed up at boot/post where before only 8 GB was recognized. Also shows in System info as 12 GB.
I'm thinking the RAM timings were the ticket as 12 GB of Kingston 1333 was recognized completely.

So was the 1.66v the stock voltages of those modules or did the XMP profile give it a bit more of a nudge??

  15. lbmest

XMP gave the nudge to the voltage.
Stock voltage is 1.65 but the 1.66 is within the +/- variance on that voltage so I'm not concerned about it.
