Just started on new Windows 8 machine, so getting used to quite a lot of changes/differences. I've read that Win8 comes with MSE/WinDefender and opinions vary as to the need for installing additional or separate Antivirus programs. I'm also curious as to whether cleanup programs, like Advanced System Care or Ccleaner, are necessary. I've used ASC for years and have always found it useful.

I would appreciate your opinions and suggestions.

You should only ever have one realtime AV installed, which in Win 8 is Defender (aka MSE). You have to turn off Defender if you want a different AV. Most ppl also install a couple of on-demand malware scanners such as MBAM and ASC. If you have ASC then in theory you shouldn't have any need for CCleaner but I would always have CCleaner on any system regardless.
