Win95 - cursor makes icons dance around?

This is an interesting one. I'm asking this for my mother, so forgive me if the information is somewhat vague (second-hand).

She's running Windows 95. Suddenly tonight she reported some very odd behavior with her computer: when she logged in, all her icons were grouped off to one side of the screen. I believe she was able to reorganize them, but after opening a window and then going up to the X to close it, the icons started "dancing" away from the cursor. As in, she'd try to go click on one and it would scoot out of the way.

I talked to her again a few minutes ago and she says now she can click on an icon, but then it'll suddenly become another icon, then another and another before finally settling back to the one it's supposed to be. Have you guys ever heard anything like that?? It sounds virus-y but since I'm not at her computer it's really hard to test for anything. Are there any viruses, trojans, or anything-ware that'll have that sort of an effect on Win95's icons?
