I had to get another 'puter and on this one, when I go to control panel and select add/remove, a blank screen appears. Is there a setting I should change to get the installed programs to be listed? Thanks.

Dumb question, but since its a new 'puter, does it even have programs installed?

Yup. It is a used machine and has several programs installed and running

You might try CCleaner. It has a "tools" option which lists the contents of the Add/Remove programs area. It may work where Windows doesn't.

Thanks Tunered. Still curious as to why nothing shows there, though. Anyone have an idea, I'd appreciate hearing it. Thanks again.

First set a restore point ...then try this:
    Start/Run/(type)REGSVR32 APPWIZ.CPL/(click)Ok

If that doesn't work, try this:

I've heard of this happening occasionally or having blank spaces between entries. The only solution I've heard that has worked is to fix the registry with scanreg. You'll need an ME boot disk so if you don't have one do this (otherwise go to the following step):

Get a blank floppy diskette, go into Add/Remove programs. Stick the disk in the floppy drive, click the startup disk tab and choose Create disk.

Now boot your system with the startup disk. At the A:\ prompt, type: C: Hit Enter. At the C:\> type scanreg/fix Hit Enter. Windows will repair/rebuild the registry. This takes a few minutes. When finished, hit Enter. Remove the disk from the drive and reboot your computer normally.

    Post back with your results.

Tim W--no luck. 1st idea, file wasn't found. Did the scanreg/fix using disc that came with the used machine...when it finished, I checked back to CP and tried Add/Remove and it was still blank.
But I did get CC and all programs were listed on it's screen. So, in a sense, the 'problem' is solved. Thanks guys, I really appreciate the input.

    1. Boot while holding the CTRL key to enter the boot menu.

    2. Select the COMMAND PROMPT ONLY option and press enter.

    3. From the C:\> prompt, type SCANREG /RESTORE and press enter.

    4. When the restore screen appears, select a backup dated before this problem occurred and then restart the system. (A properly working registry has the word 'Started' next to the date)
