Win98 Control Panel Problem

Good Day All -
Hoping y'all can help. We're having a problem w/ a Win 98se PC. Cannot access any Control Panel. Can open the Control Panel Window, however when trying to open (by dbl click Icon) nothing happens. No message, No opening control panel. Is there hope?

That isn't the problem. CPL files are on the HD, can be found and opened. Seems the path from the control panel window is lost. Anyone know a solution to abate the problem?

 

Rename Control.ini to Control.old, and reboot.

 

Tried that and the problem remains. Also noticed that some of the functions from the start menu (short cuts) do not work either. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

 

Does he have the file config.pol on his system. If so, then he has system policies enabled. Rename it to config.pol.bak, then reboot.

 

That is not on the computer. Just the file Control. File reads:

No "Control.ini" found, is that the problem??

 

That is definitely his control.ini so rename it to be that. Then reboot the system.

 

Is Office 97 or 2000 on the system?

 

Office 2000 is on the system.

 

OK, then the entry under MMCPL is good. It is for Outlook.
