    Hi
Working on my mother-in-laws computer with Win 98 SE OEM with no install CD. Bought at a show and was preloaded. It has a WIN98 folder, looks like everything is in it. I need to reinstall but don't want to do a clean install because I don't have any driver CDs either. I have tried to run set up but I get "insert disk 1" and then "can't find smartdrv.exe". It's in the WIN98 folder but it's renamed .old.
I've done this before. I've got XP on my others and I've kinda got 98 memory lapse.
    Thanks for any help.

Heh, I suffer the same affliction I'm afraid, so please take my advice with a grain of salt. I'm not familiar with a method for performing a repair install of 98. What I can tell you is that you can use a driver backup utility (there's some available on this site http://majorgeeks.com/downloads28.html) and THEN perform a clean install and have your drivers reload after that.
